EpikChat is a room-based community with webcam streaming, where regulars run their own rooms. We have no rooms and no regulars. Which is better depends on whether you want a place or a person.
EpikChat is a chat rooms site where you can make friends, doodle and live stream on camera. Its FAQ says a private beta launched in January 2012, with a public release later that year. About 9,900 people a month search for it in the US.
Its room list is mostly rooms run by users, each with its own character — social rooms, gaming rooms, faith rooms, regional rooms and a ladies-only room. Some are marked 18+ or NSFW, some require cameras, and some are for logged-in or verified users only.
It has no official mobile app, but says the full site, including live streaming, works in a phone or tablet browser.
EpikChat says it has made no money: it is funded by a small group of investors and volunteers, with long-term plans for revenue through apps and in-chat purchases.
Some rooms are open and others are restricted to logged-in or verified users. Its FAQ says it does not sell or share personal information, that your IP address is visible only to its servers, and that it does not keep replays of live broadcasts.
