Anonymous chat with strangers

Anonymous is a word every chat site uses and few define. Here is precisely what it means here, including the parts that are not anonymous.

What is anonymous

There is no signup, so there is no email address, no password and no username tied to you. There is no profile, so there is nothing for the other person to look up. Nothing you type is kept after the conversation ends, and closing the tab ends the session completely.

The person you are matched with is given nothing about you beyond what you choose to say. They do not get your name, your location, or any identifier that would let them find you again after you skip.

What is not anonymous, honestly

No web service can promise total anonymity, and any site that claims it is lying to you. Some things are unavoidable:

  • Your IP address reaches our servers, as it does with every website you visit, and is written to our request logs. It is what makes blocking abusive users possible at all.
  • Each match leaves a record — that it happened and how long it lasted, not what was said — and your browser keeps a cookie that lets the matcher avoid pairing you with the same person again.
  • In video chat, a peer-to-peer connection can expose your IP to the other side. This is how WebRTC works everywhere, not something specific to us.
  • Anything you say about yourself is yours to control. Most identification in random chat comes from people volunteering details, not from technical leaks.
  • Reported conversations retain limited evidence so a human can review the report. Without that, the report button would be decorative.

Staying anonymous in practice

The technical side matters less than the behavioural side. People are almost never identified because of a protocol flaw — they are identified because they mentioned their city, their employer and their first name in the same conversation.

Keep your background plain if you are on camera. Do not move to another platform where your real handle is visible. Treat the fact that someone seems friendly as no evidence at all about who they are.

Common questions

Is anonymous chat here really anonymous?

There is no account, no profile and no message history kept after a chat ends. Your IP address does reach our servers, as with any website, and video uses a peer-to-peer connection that can expose an IP to the other participant.

Do you store my messages?

No, not after the conversation ends. Reported sessions retain limited evidence so a human reviewer can act on the report.

Can the other person find out who I am?

Only from what you tell them. They are given no name, no profile and no way to reach you again once the chat ends.

Do I need an email address?

No. There is no signup of any kind.
