Random video chat with strangers

Face to face with someone new, one at a time, in the browser. No app, no account, and no obligation to stay past hello.

How it works

Give a display name, your gender and your age the first time, then press start and your browser asks for camera and microphone permission. Once you allow it you go into the queue, and you are matched one-to-one with another person. Either of you can skip at any point, and you are immediately back in the queue.

The call is peer-to-peer wherever the network allows it, which means the video travels between the two of you rather than through a server that keeps a copy.

  • Front or rear camera on mobile
  • Mute audio or stop video mid-call without ending the match
  • Unlimited skips
  • Nothing to install on desktop or mobile

Video or text — you pick

Not everyone wants to be on camera, and treating text as a second-class fallback is the mistake most video chat sites make. Text chat here is a full mode in its own right, with its own page and its own audience.

If you are not sure, start with text. Nothing forces you to turn a camera on, and the browser will not even ask for permission in text mode.

Camera safety, plainly

Turning your camera on for a stranger carries real risk, and it is worth being deliberate about it. Check what is behind you before you start — a visible address, a school uniform, a work badge or post on a desk gives away more than people expect.

Assume anything on camera can be recorded by the other person regardless of what any site promises. That is true here and it is true everywhere. If someone asks you to do something on camera you would not want recorded, that is the moment to skip and report.

Permission is revocable at any time from the padlock or camera icon in your address bar.

Common questions

Do I need to download anything?

No. It runs in the browser on desktop and mobile. There is no app to install.

Is random video chat free?

Yes. No paid tier and no time limit.

Why is my camera blocked?

Your browser is denying camera access for this site. Open the padlock or camera icon in the address bar, allow access, then reload. On iOS you may also need Settings, then Safari, then Camera.

Is video recorded?

Video is streamed peer-to-peer rather than recorded by us. Be aware that the person you are talking to can always record their own screen — that is true of every video chat service.

Can I chat without a camera?

Yes. Text chat is a separate mode that never requests camera permission.
