Camsurf alternative: browser only, by choice

Camsurf is a clean, fast random video chat site with a built-in text chat and an Android app. The app is the main thing it has that we do not.

What Camsurf is

Camsurf is a browser-based random video chat service. Its own site describes taking a second to connect with someone, then enabling sound, chatting with a microphone, or using the built-in text chat to type.

So it covers video, audio and text in one interface rather than splitting them, which is a reasonable design and different from ours.

It also announced an Android app as a complement to the browser platform, which its site describes in those terms — the browser experience is primary and the app supplements it.

What it costs and what it asks for

Camsurf is free to use and browser-based. We did not find a registration wall on the homepage, though we also did not find an explicit no-account statement of the kind Joingy and Tinychat publish, so treat the exact position as unverified.

The Android app is optional rather than required — the site presents it as a complement to the web platform.

  • Browser-based, free to start
  • Built-in text chat alongside video and microphone
  • Android app available, presented as optional

Where Camsurf is the better choice

  • An Android app, which we do not have in any form.
  • Video, microphone and text in one interface rather than as separate modes.
  • An established user base and years of operation.

Where MatchWithRandom is

  • No account at any point, which we state explicitly rather than leaving you to find out.
  • Text treated as a first-class mode with its own page, rather than a control inside the video interface.
  • Message text is not stored once a chat ends.

Common questions

Does Camsurf have text chat?

Yes. Its site describes a built-in text chat you can use to type while connected, alongside sound and microphone options.

Does Camsurf have an app?

It has an Android app, which its site presents as a complement to the browser-based platform rather than a replacement.

Does Camsurf require an account?

We did not find a registration wall, but nor did we find an explicit statement either way, so we are not going to assert one.
